Master keying office furniture with Ojmar UNO

A good master key system lets each person open their own furniture while the facilities team can open everything when they need to. With Ojmar UNO, the system is built on one interchangeable cylinder that fits every lock in the range, which keeps planning simple.

Start with a schedule

Before ordering, list the furniture that needs locking:

  • Pedestals and drawer units
  • Filing cabinets
  • Cupboards with hinged, sliding or glass doors
  • Tall storage and storage walls

For each item, note who uses it (one person, a team or shared) and which lock type it needs: cam, rim, sliding door, glass door, central locking or espagnolette.

Decide the levels

Most offices need two levels: individual keys for users, and a master key for facilities. Larger workplaces sometimes add a level for each team or floor. Settle this early, because it decides how the cylinders are keyed.

Plan for change

Teams move and keys go missing. With UNO, the response is to change the cylinder rather than the lock, so the furniture and joinery stay as they are. It is worth keeping a register of which cylinder sits in which piece of furniture.

Work with the joiner early

If the furniture is being built, give the joiner the lock schedule before production so door and drawer preparation suits each lock. Locksmart Australia works with joiners and furniture makers on these details regularly.
